The Audi Q8 had been embedded on paper for quite a while now and has finally gotten the approval to get off it and out onto the production line. Audi bosses finally approved the luxury coupe crossover for production and it may debut by 2017. Apparently, Audi is quite excited by the Q8 and has already slated a production volume of 25,000 units on the first go.
The new Q8 will be heavily aluminium based to drastically reduce the vehicle’s kerb weight in order to improve performance. According to reports, the Q8 may be as much as 300kgs lighter than the current Audi Q7. Powering the Q8 will be a range of V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines along with a possible plug-in hybrid and a 550bhp RS version. Audi is planning to bring out coupe versions of its entire SUV range by 2020. From what we can tell so far, the even numbers in the range, that is the Q2, Q4, Q6 and Q8 will be coupe crossovers while the odd numbers, that is the Q3, Q5 and Q7 will be traditional, boxy SUVs.
