Here is the news to attract the Indian car lovers as the small car from the joint contribution of Mercedes Benz, the German luxury car manufacturer along with Renault-Nissan which is the famous French-Japanese collaboration, is apparently thinking on the lines to make its first ever appearance in the Indian auto market with a small car. The news was revealed by an official from Mercedes-Benz today. Year 2010 was marked by Daimler AG and Renault for the announcement of a new model which will be built by the joint contribution of Mercedes, Renault and Nissan. The collaboration is to work on the Project Edison, which is a small car initiative which will employ the rear wheel driven engines which at present are traced in Smart car. The car is expected to sport a range of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines with a capacity of 1.2 litres.
Addressing the issue, Dieter Zetsche who is the chairman of the board of Daimler and head, Mercedes Benz commented that they have worked in collaboration with Renault and also said that the collaboration can come up with a worth offering. He also stated that the company is well aware of the unexplored opportunities lying in the Indian small car segment. He also said that new Mercedes A-Class which is the smallest car offered by the company can also come up in India.
Mercedes is aware of the big opportunities lying in the Indian auto market since past three years and this has given the company a first mover advantage over other luxury car makers in the year 2010, the company marked a growth in sales by commendable 80% amounting to 5,800 units. But still the company was not able to grab the top position from the major rival BMW.
