BMW, the luxury carmaker in order to rectify the faulty airbags has issued a global recall of BMW 3 Series manufactured between May 1999 and August 2006. The company is recalling more than 16 lakh cars worldwide on the safety concern of airbags. On the recall the manufacturer said that it's a precaution because other automakers using similar systems have reported problems.
BMW will replace the passenger-side front airbag which is manufactured by the Takata Corp. Recently its been found that the airbags are deployed at a very high speed causing a rupture in the inflator’s metal case which eventually end up injuring the passengers.
In the month of June, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating air bags made by Takata. In the statement, the agency said,"Based on the limited data available at this time, NHTSA supports efforts by automakers to address the immediate risk in areas that have consistently hot, humid conditions over extended periods of time,"
While the Japanese based company Takata Corp which deals in making seat belts and airbags said in a statement that it will support the NHTSA investigation with all the technical issues."Our objective is to do all that is possible to ensure the safety and well-being of the public."
