BMW January sales reaches 500 units leaving behind Mercedes-Benz

The king of luxury car market was not able to regain its top position with the starting of the new year by marking a total sales of 500 units in January 2011 which is 140 units less than the main rival Mercedes Benz. The company was not able to maintain its Numero Uno position in the Indian luxury car market and was defeated by the major rival Mercedes Benz which was working hard to attain the top position.

Last year BMW sold 341 units in the month of January which is a straight jump by 46.63 per cent against this year figures. Whereas the other German rival, Mercedes Benz India has achieved a progress of 58.81 per cent in the year beginning sales against that of last years figures by selling 640 units. This is the highest level ever attained by the company in the Indian auto market.

The third German rival, Audi was able to mark a sale of 480 cars in the month of January 2011, which is again the best sales figure ever flaunted by the company. Last year Audi was able to sell 306 cars in the month of January which means the this year a hike of 56.86 per cent is marked.

In the year 2010, BMW stood at the top leaving behind both the home ground rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi by selling a total of 6,246 units.

In the period between January to December 2010, Mercedes-Benz India was able to sell a total of 5,819 units whereas the other German player Audi India marked a sale of 3,003 units in the Indian auto market in the same period. As per the estimates, the Indian luxury car market constitute 15,000 units per year.

As per the sales figures, BMW was able to sell 164 units of the BMW 3 series, 271 units of BMW 5 series, 1 unit of BMW 6 series, 17 units of BMW 7 series, 15 units of BMW X1, 2 units of the BMW X3, 9 units of BMW X5, 9 units of BMW X6, 5 units of BMW Z4 and 7 units of BMW Gran Turismo.

Addressing the issue, Dr. Andreas Schaaf who is the President in BMW India commented that the company will work hard in the running year also to regain its numero uno position.
