BMW has been ruling the luxury segment in global and Indian car market for a long time now. The major rivals of BMW are its German counterparts, Mercedes and Audi, who have been making unyielding attempts to oust it from the top position. To much surprise and dismay of its competitors the German auto maker BMW has publicly declared that the company is all geared up to achieve its target of selling 2 million cars 4 years in advance. Initially BMW was supposed to accomplish this task by the end of the year 2020. Last year, BMW sold 1.67 million vehicles all over the world without losing out on the profits. This year also the company is aiming to touch new heights in terms of sales along with an increase in its margins of profit. The company is planning to stimulate its growth and live up to its declaration of selling 2 million cars 4 years ahead of schedule. For this purpose BMW is now targeting the emerging economies like India, Russian, Turkey, South Korea and Brazil.
After the United States and BMW’s home market Germany, China is the biggest market for BMW cars around the globe. If everything goes as planned, the summer of 2012 would witness the launch of 12 new and upgraded BMW and Mini models. The company is looking forward to the expansion of its production capacity all over the world. For this purpose, this year the company will be putting up a new factory in Brazil and a second factory in China. The US, South Africa and India would also be involved in this process of production capacity expansion. The top position attracts more enemies, therefore in an attempt to uncrown BMW and become number one the German auto maker - Mercedes has a fleet of cars arrayed for launch. The Ingolstadt auto titan, Audi too is set on dethroning BMW. It has already bagged the second position in the auto manufacturing world by overtaking Mercedes. With the benefit of economies of scale from parent Volkswagen, Audi relishes more profitability than BMW.
