Bridgestone Corporation, the Japan based tyre manufacturer, today announced the investment of Rs 170 crore in the Indore based factory with a view to produce bus and truck radial tyres. The production of these tyres will start by May 2011. The company official says that the decision of this big investment is based on the increasing demand of its TBR's (Truck and Bus Radial Tyres) in the Indian auto market.
Addressing the big occasion, Hiromi Tanigawa who is the Managing Director of Bridgestone India commented that company till date got the TBR's (Truck and Bus Radial Tyres) through imports from Japan and cherished as low as 5% share, but now the company is planning to start the production of TBR's now in the Indore manufacturing unit. He also claimed an investment of Rs 170 crore for setting up a dedicated line in the existing manufacturing facility which is only specialised in producing car tyres yet.
The Indore manufacturing plant of Bridgestone is capable of churning out as many as 15,000 passenger car tyres daily. Now with the introduction of this exclusive dedicated line, the factory will be able to manufacture 400 tyres every day by 2012 when it will be fully operational.
