The domestic car market has not been facing a very good time since past few months. Auto majors, such as Maruti India and Tata Motors and other car makers have taken up new measures to boost up their car sales figures. Some are offering discounts, some offering exchange offers and so on. This fiscal year, the car industry of India saw a single digit growth rate, reason being sky rocketing petrol prices and higher interest rates. Therefore this caused auto majors like Tata Motors and Maruti India to cut down their production a bit.

According to a spokesperson of Tata Motors, the firm is keeping the production just exact that is as per the demand in the market. The company is capable enough to do adjustment in the production. At this point of time, the demand is pretty slow, so the production is done accordingly. As per the figures, the car production of Tata Motors in July 2011 went down by 26.96% when compared to the production in July 2010. The domestic sales also went down by 43.13% to about 13,997 units.

Even Maruti India also announced cut down in production of some of its car models, such as Maruti Alto by 5% in July because of the slumping demand in the Indian car market. as per the MD and CEO of Maruti India, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi told that the production cut of Maruti car models excluding Maruti Dzire and Maruti Swift was done because of the bad market circumstances.

In the month of July the production of Maruti India went stumbling down by 21.08% mainly because of non-production of Maruti Swift. Even the domestic car sales went down by about 31.04% to around 52,483 units. Other auto majors, such as Honda SIEL Cars India, General Motors India and Hyundai India are also witnessing bad car sales and hope that new launches will surely boost up their sales figures. Also it is a known fact that due to the difference between the petrol and diesel prices, people are more inclined towards diesel cars. Therefore, car manufacturers are eyeing to develop affordable diesel cars.Hopefully, new cars like new Maruti Swift, New Volkswagen Jetta and new Honda Jazz will surely help in ramping up the sales volume.
