Datsun products to be based on Nissan's Micra platform

As per Nissan’s 88 project, the company will introduce Datsun brand as a lower brand in the Nissan Group umbrella. Datsun will be introduced in India, Russia, Indonesia and . These products will have high levels of localised spares, which will help the company to reduce the cost.
In Russia, the company will be introducing the Datsun on the Lada platform, however for India the company will have share it on the ‘V’ platform. The Datsun brand will have three products, one will be a hatchback, second a sedan and third will be an SUV.
First, the company will introduce the hatchback that will be based on the Micra by the end of this year, or at start of 2014. The K2 will have several resembling design and interior bits that will be shared with the Micra. It will be competing with the A+/B segment hatchbacks and it will also have the same 1.2-litre petrol engine. The company could even introduce a diesel engine, as they have the 1.5-litre K9K engine in their fleet. The other products will take some time for introduction and the company is focusing on the hatchback first.
The Micra facelift will be launched in a few months and then a new product that Nissan will introduce is Duster-based SUV, which is called as the NH79 or the X79 at the moment. It is after this, that Nissan will introduce the Datsun brand.
