Ahead of its launch scheduled on April 14, Datsun has teased the upcoming Redi-Go hatchback. The released image is a showcase and does not reveal a lot. However, it does look very similar to the Redi-Go concept which surfaced at the 2014 Auto Expo.
Though the Datsun Redi Go shares the CMF-A platform with the Renault KWID, Datsun claims that its car will be a completely different product from the KWID. However, it is highly likely that the pair will have similarities. Datsun Redi Go vs Renault Kwid will help you in comparing the complete specifications of the two hatchbacks.
Mechanical duties are expected to be carried out by the same 0.8-litre petrol engine that’s employed in the KWID. It produces 53bhp of power with 72Nm of peak torque in Renault’s offering and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Nissan recently developed a 1.0-litre diesel engine which we expect to power the Redi-Go at a later stage.
The launch of the Redi-Go comes at a time when Datsun’s existing products, the GO and the GO+, have failed to give the company the required volume of sales. The car will rival the likes of Alto 800, the Eon and the KWID in the segment (check our comparison). Since the Redi-Go will borrow numerous features from the KWID, it will help the carmaker reduce the cost. We expect prices to start around the Rs. 2.5 lakh mark.
