Diesel variant of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado launched in India

Diesel variant of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has been launched in India on Wednesday, as expected earlier. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is priced at Rs 52.74 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore). This will be available in five stunning shades- greyish blue metallic, silver metallic, white pearl crystal shine, black and grey metallic. The new variant comes equipped with a 3.0 litre diesel engine. Apart from this, the vehicle sports 3 zone automatic climate control, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Down-hill Assist Control (DAC) and multi-information display. The car was displayed at Frankfurt Auto Expo mid 2009. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado comes loaded with the 3.0 litre D-4D turbo common rail diesel mill. It houses five-speed automatic transmission. The powerful mill of the car belts out 171 bhp at 3,400 rpm and peak torque of 410 Nm between 1600 and 2800 rpm. For driving stability at city and highway speeds, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is also equipped with Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. The vehicle is also blessed with four cameras which provide live video feeds for assistance.

On the occasion of the launch, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) MD Hiroshi Nagakawa told media persons that the vehicle has got overwhelming response from Indian customers since its launch in 2004. Over 1.56 million units of the vehicle has been sold in over 170 countries so far. The company is expecting 10 per cent market share in Sports Utility Vehicle class with the recent launch. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is targeted to a particular class of people which includes socialites, industrialists and active businessmen. The company, Toyota, is also heard to launch a new small car in India during Delhi Auto Expo. The new compact car is christened Toyota Etios. The car, Toyota Etios, is supposed to have 1.2 litre petrol engine and automatic transmission. Apart from this compact car, Volkswagen Polo and Ford Figo are also slated to be unveiled at the grand show at New Delhi.
