The Duster with six-speed dual-clutch automatic in Europe is available only with the 1.5-litre 110PS dCi diesel in 4x2 layout, just like the AMT (automated-manual transmission) version of the compact SUV in India.
The European Duster, which is sold under Renault’s affordable arm, Dacia, in Europe, is now available with the Renault-Nissan alliance's six-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic transmission – a first for the Duster brand. Dacia revealed the Duster with six-speed EDC at the ongoing 2016 Paris Motor Show and it is on sale in the UK.
In India, the updated version that was launched earlier this year is coupled to an automated manual transmission (AMT) based on the Duster’s six-speed manual gearbox. And, surprisingly, the top-end version of the Dacia Duster in the UK, equipped with the six-speed EDC, is cheaper than the AMT-equipped version sold in India. In the UK, the range-topping six-speed EDC version is priced at £15,795 (nearly Rs 13.52 lakh) on road, while the top-end Indian AMT version costs Rs 12.97 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and the on-road price will certainly surpass that of the UK version. Dual-clutch automatics are any day superior to AMTs, with the former having smoother and faster shifts.
Like the Indian AMT version, the six-speed EDC is coupled to the 110PS version of the 1.5-litre dCi diesel in the Dacia Duster and also comes with hill-hold assist.
