Nissan India will introduce seven new products in India, three of which will be based on the Datsun platform. Our sources confirm that the Datsun brand will not just have a hatchback and a sedan, but even an SUV. The company has been working on to localise the products of the Datsun brand and that is where we come to know that the company is getting an SUV also, based on the Datsun platform, which will be a compact SUV and will compete with the Ford Ecosport, Mahindra Quanto and the other sub 4-metre SUVs. This will be a B-segment SUV.
The other vehicles in the list include a new crossover Qashqai, which will replace the X-Trail. The Qashqai is a seven-seater and will be the replacement for this SUV, as it looks stylish and at the same time, it has seven-seats as well. This makes the Nissan fulfil the requirements of the Indian car customers, who need seven-seater utility vehicles, despite not using them. The other vehicle is known to us and we all have been waiting for it— Nissan’s version of the Duster. It is NH79 or X79 as it is currently codenamed. This Nissan SUV will have a fascia similar to that of the X-Trail. As mentioned in our previous story , the interiors of the Nissan’s version will differ from that of the Duster and Nissan could even surprise us with seven-seats.
The other two new models include the next-generation Teana/Altima, and also a new product for the brand promotion. It will be either be the GT-R or the Juke-R. Our money is on the Juke-R, as Nissan has several SUVs in its line-up and also the fact that the GT-R ground clearance is very low, making it difficult to be driven on Indian roads.
