Tata Motors has a long list of launches for this year and one surprise for all is the Automated Manual Transmission. Tata Motors will showcase about dozen+ new products and technologies at the upcoming Auto Expo. One major amongst these is the automated manual transmission, a technology that will also be showcased on the Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
Tata Motors will be introducing the new F4 and F5 vehicles. The F5 is the new compact sedan, which will be based on the Vista platform. This is an all-new sedan that will sub 4-metre in length and will be powered by Tata’s new Revotron 1.2T engine. Our sources confirm that this vehicle will get the automated manual transmission, and it will be the first sedan in India to get this transmission.
Tata Motors will also showcase its new Revotron engine, the F4, F5, the AMT, some more variants of the Nano. One can also expect the Safari Storme automatic to be showcased and a version with Harman Kardon music system and touch-screen too. The Aria facelift is on the cards too. So, all those who are thinking that Tata might not do much, then they will have to get their facts correct. There will be more than a dozen of fresh products and technologies that will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo in the next week.
With Automated Manual transmission, the advantage is that there is no clutch, which makes it easier to shift without pressing the clutch. There are only two pedals, accelerate and brake and it functions similar to tiptronic transmission, where the driver has to shift up or down as per the engine speed and power required. However, there is no automatic upshift or downshift by the engine, as it is with tiptronic. Hence, the technology is a lot cheaper and it saves one from the pain of clutching and de-clutching in bumper-to-bumper traffic. This technology is cheaper than automatic transmission, and hence it is a better option for cars that are under Rs 8 lakhs, as the increase in price tag isn't very high, when compared to automatic transmission.
