Ford EcoSport has been an immense success for the American auto maker not just in India, but in the global markets as well, especially in Brazil. The excellent sales volume of the EcoSport has already influenced several car makers to come up with their own compact crossovers in order to cope up with the market demand. Fiat, the Italian auto maker is all set to join this segment.

According to the Autossegredos.com.br, the Fiat is working on a mini SUV to compete with the EcoSport in the Brazilian auto market. Codenamed Project 338, the new crossover will use ingredients based on the market requirements in Brazil. The mini SUV will compete against the likes of EcoSport, Mitsubishi TR4 and the Suzuki SX4.

No physical prototypes of the SUV project 338 has been spotted on the streets. The tests for the mini SUV are still made in-house, and it is expected that the vehicle will be shown to the public by early 2014. The specifications and other details of the compact SUV is still behind curtains, but it would be developed at the Italian carmaker's upcoming Brazilian plant in the state of Pernambuco. The vehicle will be manufactured alongside a new pickup truck that is codenamed Project 226.
