Figo Aspire: Is the best move by Ford yet?

Okay! So the big story is that Ford is finally bringing its first ever compact sedan, Figo Aspire, into the mainstream in a matter of two days. And the question remains the same, is this the American’s best move yet in India? I mean, we have seen successful cars like the Ikon, Fiesta (now Classic) and Figo. But, these were specifically meant for India and they worked here as they came into existence after deep research of market. On the other hand, there were cars like the Escort, the Mondeo and the Fusion, all great product worldwide, sadly, didn’t work here.

However, Figo Aspire belongs to that lot, the researched one. It's been made keeping India in mind and will be exported to other similar markets, South Africa is one. Our first drive of the Aspire impressed us for its compactness that in turn gives it agility. This compact nature will give it an edge in city and will make it an ideal car for daily commuters. And when it comes to the appearance of the car it looks good, especially the frontal end. And the rear is bestowed with an elegantly dropping roofline.

On the inside, it gets beige and black color scheme with the Ford’s latest interior scheme that could be seen in cars like the EcoSport and Fiesta. Also, the insides are very ergonomic and will comfortably seat 5 people. Vehicle-human interaction is also this car maker’s specialty - the state of the art SYNC system works perfectly with your phone and recognizes voice commands quite effectively.

There’s one more fact which explain that Ford is so much focused to make this car a hit from day one. They are introducing the updated 1.5-liter TDCi diesel in the Aspire before the Fiesta or even the very popular EcoSport. So, Aspire will be more powerful than the EcoSport and Fiesta, until they get this updated motor. Apart from the 100PS/215Nm updated diesel, it also features brand new 1.2-liter TiVCT petrol and segment first 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission mated to a powerful 1.5-liter TiVCT.

All this indicates that Ford has another ace up its sleeve, but it will be interesting to see how much appreciation it will get and that will be decided by the acceptance from buyers. Stay tuned!
