The First batch of next gen Volvo XC90 is sold in just 47 hours. A total of 1,927 First Edition individually numbered cars were put on sale online on 3rd September. The 1,927 individually numbered cars celebrate the year Volvo was founded and for the first time in history, the company sold the cars via digital commerce. According to the manufacturer, most of the cars were sold within the first hour and at its peak, 7 cars were booked every minute. Most of the sales came from United Kingdom as the customers reserved in a total of 55 cars which will be delivered by the April, 2015.
“We are very pleased, but not really surprised,” said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group. “The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world-première last week.”
XC90 was put on sales on the company’s website www.volvocars.com and the lucky owners will get fully equipped car with uniquely numbered tread plates along with a distinctive badge on tailgate.
“The first buyers signed up for their favourite number in milliseconds. The rapid response confirms that the XC90 is a truly iconic car model. The First Edition will be a collector’s item in the future,” said Alain Visser.
On the exterior the all new XC90 embraces 21-inch wheels with 8-spoke alloys combined with nappa leather seats in Amber. The interior also features Charcoal leather dashboard with Linear Walnut inlays, Bowers & Wilkins audio system and 9.5-inch tablet-like touch screen infotainment system for navigation, media, phone and weather.
The First Edition XC90 are powered by four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains. The D5 twin turbo diesel engine develops maximum power of 225bhp and 470Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to eight-speed automatic transmission.
