Ford Figo is witnessing a huge surge in sales and this has encouraged Ford India officials to take the hatchback to overseas markets also. Ford India is mulling to expand its reach to 50 countries by the end of this year or early 2012, all thanks to small car Ford Figo’s exports which has jumped over two-and-half folds during the January-September period this year compared to the same period last year.

Exports has been a real joy for the company, believes Nigel E Wark, Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service). He threw some light on figures by saying that in September, Ford India exported 2,469 cars and the company is quite happy with the performance. The crusader for this achievement is definitely its popular car Ford Figo which made its international debut in India in March 2010 and is currently being exported to 27 countries.

Without naming the possible countries, Nigel also said that Ford India is looking at exporting the car to about 50 countries either by the end of this year or early next year. While South Africa is the first and by far the biggest market where Ford India exported the Ford Figo last year, Jamaica was recently added to the list of overseas market extending it to 27 countries now. Besides the Ford Figo, Ford India also exports its sedan Ford Fiesta classic to South Africa.
