Ford introduced Figo to compete with Swift and in 2010, it offered more bells and whistles than the Swift, at nearly a lakh cheaper price tag! End-result - Figo successfully flipped the fortune of Ford India. Now, they are bringing a trained assassin to fend Swift Dzire - the question arises - will Figo Aspire bully Swift Dzire?
When we are talking about Swift Dzire, the first thing that pops-up is sales figure, Swift Dzire is India’s highest selling sedan (on an average 15-17K units monthly) and same is the case with the Swift - highest selling premium hatch. But in the Swift-twins dominant little town, revolt is in full swing and everybody is fighting for the throne. Speaking of which, Hyundai i20 has reached to 12K units monthly while Amaze is also doing quite well lately. But we’ll figure out how the Ford’s debutant player in the sub-4m sedan fairs against the sales cruncher - Swift Dzire. Let us roll
Looks Matter!
It’s hard to carve out a good looking sedan when you have length constraints - length should be similar to that of a premium hatch. Exceptions - Tata and Ford managed quite well. Furthermore, our highest selling compact sedan - Swift Dzire is indeed the oddest looking in the lot. But it's not amusing, since it offers an extremely good overall package, however, people are living with its odd looking back!
Compared to Dzire, Aspire has got the looks to turn heads. Ford has got the stylish Aston-martin grille, not so chubby boot and it's not disproportionate.
Powerful engines
Aspire is coming with brand new engines, not known to Figo nameplate, petrol will be the 1.2-liter TiVCT and diesel will the 1.5-liter TDCI. Dzire, on the other hand, offers 1.2 K-Series motor along with a Fiat sourced 1.3 DDiS190 diesel. As we don't know specs of the Ford’s new 1.2-liter TiVCT but expect it to be similar to that of Maruti’s 1.2-liter petrol. But when it comes to diesel, Aspire (Fiesta’s engine) excels with 90 PS and 204 Nm of tap compared to 75 PS and 190 Nm of Dzire. Speaking of the fuel efficiency, Dzire is currently the most fuel efficient car in the country with diesel extracting 26.59 kmpl. About Aspire, the same engine in Fiesta puts of a decent 25.1 kmpl, expect more in it.
Moreover, according to few reports, Aspire is also getting a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with a 1.5-liter Ti-VCT motor - its segment-first!

Better equipped - Comfort and Safety Features
Compared to Swift Dzire or even any other car in Aspire’s segment, it's getting several first-in-segment features. Like, voice-controlled SYNC audio system and AppLink smartphone integration. Enjoy selected apps - hands-free, control your air conditioning with voice commands, just like in the Fiesta or the EcoSport. While Bluetooth is expected to be standard across the range along with a mobile docking station. You’ll also get 6 airbags in Aspire with never heard in its segment - side and curtain airbags.
In a nutshell, Figo Aspire will certainly have its share of shortcomings over the Swift Dzire - you cannot perfect everything. But from what we know so far it appears to be the best looking and loaded car in its segment. However, all this would clear soon, as Aspire’s launch is sooner than you think!
