Ford India, the Indian subsidiary of US based leading car maker Ford Motors, has registered a whooping sales figure of 22,858 units in the total sales of first quarter of this financial year, as against 6,184 units sold in the same period last year. The company has already crossed the previously set sales target for the period of March-June 2010. The major contributor to this lucrative sales figure was the company's recently launched compact-hatchback that accounted for the sales of more than 17,000 units in India since its launch in the month of March this year.
The company's June 2010 sales stood at 7,269 units as against 1,982 units sold in June 2009 which resulted in a growth of 267 percent. According to Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India, the company has achieved a phenomenal feat with its March to June sales figures alone, exceeding the entire sales volume for 2009. He added that the company will continue to focus on its customers' needs so that they will feel the Ford difference with ford products and services.
In the initial four months of its launch in the Indian market, the Ford Figo model has clocked more that 24,000 purchase orders, which helped the company in performing well in the volume driven compact hatchback segment. Ford India has started a second shift at its Maraimalainagar production facility, in Chennai. The decision has been taken in a bid to catch-up with the mounting demand for the Figo model in Indian market.
Besides Figo, the other popular cars of the company including Ford Fiesta, Ford Endeavour and Ford Ikon that performed considerably well during the period.
