When it comes to cars, people want more economical cars without compromising on the power or the space and Ford Motors has figured that out, says Mr. Raj Nair, the Vice President of Engineering for Global Product Development of Ford. For the new Ford Escape SUV, the company will be making available three EcoBoost engines which are 1.6-liter (SEL), 2.0-liter (Titanium) and the 2.5-liter (S).
These EcoBoost engines are sure to make the new Escape a highly fuel efficient SUV with fuel consumption going under 6.9-liter per 100 km. According to the Transport Canada-approve numbers, the SEL engine is the most efficient of all with 6.0-liter per 100 km.
With the help of these three engines the Escape is expected to beat even the hybrid version. Mr. Nair also stated that the company has grown a lot when it comes to fuel consumption and this has perfectly proved that the company is quite capable of developing small yet powerful engines.
It has never happened before that a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine with 178 horsepower and 194 ft-lbs torque has been offered in North America.
This engine is capable of producing 20 more horsepower and 30 ft-lbs more torque than the Mazda CX-5. Ford Motors is confident that by 2013 it will equip 90% of its cars with an EcoBoost power-train.
