With EVs gaining popularity in India, carmakers are scrambling to launch new models in the newest automobile segment
EV awareness is increasing day by day and more automakers including mass market ones are looking to enter into this segment. Unlike conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, electric vehicles offer lower running costs, lower maintenance (due to lesser moving parts) and a quieter ride as well. With charging infrastructure also on the rise in India, EVs are no longer limited to in-city usage; it is now not that far-fetched a notion to undertake cross country rides in an all-electric vehicle.
Maruti eVX
The eVX will be the first all-electric Maruti Suzuki offering in India. The car has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, which, we believe, could mean a preponed launch sometime in 2024. Expected to be built at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat, it is likely to get a 60 kWh battery and dual motors that are good for a range of 550 km. A Toyota variant is also being planned.
Expected Price: Rs 22 lakh
Expected Launch: By Late 2024
Hyundai Kona Electric
The 2nd-gen Kona Electric, revealed earlier this year, is larger, has a more upmarket design and comes with more features. The new Kona Electric comes with Hyundai’s new design language as well. A 48.4 kWh battery pack for the base model means it delivers a range of 377 km according to the WLTP cycle.
Expected Price: Rs 25 lakh
Expected Launch: To Be Announced
Tata Punch EV
It is no big secret that Tata is planning to get an electric variant of the micro SUV. Spy images of the Tata Punch EV have already surfaced online, which could mean that the launch is right around the corner. The Punch EV will borrow design inspiration from the larger Nexon EV and get some new features of its own. It could be offered in Standard and Long Range variants.
Expected Price: Rs 12 lakh
Expected Launch: January 2024

The Tata Curvv EV will slot between the electric variants of the Harrier and the Nexon. The first SUV coupe from the Indian carmaker, it has already been spotted testing on multiple occasions on our roads. The model will go on sale as an EV first, before the ICE version is released.
Expected Price: Rs 20 lakh
Expected Launch: March 2024
Tata Harrier EV
Just a while back, Tata launched the new Harrier facelift in India. Like other models in its lineup, Tata plans to launch an electric variant of the SUV sometime in 2024 and showcased a concept version of it at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Harrier EV will have a familiar design like the regular Harrier, but with EV-specific design elements. Tata could offer multiple battery and motor options, including all-wheel-drive (AWD), with a range of around 500 km.
Expected Price: Rs 30 lakh

Mahindra XUV.e8
The all-electric version of the XUV700 will likely debut towards the end of 2024. Mahindra might launch the car with a choice of two battery options – 60 kWh and 80 kWh – along with single- or dual-motor (AWD) configurations. While detailed specifications are not yet known, we can expect the XUV.e8 to have a range of 450 km.

Citroen C3X EV

The C3X is the 3rd car based on the same platform after the C3 and C3 Aircross in India. It will get both ICE and EV versions and will have a crossover-like design. To differentiate the all-electric variant of the C3X crossover from its ICE sibling, Citroen might opt to give the car some design changes inside and out. Details about its powertrain options are not yet public; however, we expect the car to feature a larger battery and a more powerful motor than the eC3.
Expected Price: To Be Announced
Expected Launch: September 2024
