The Exter is available in five broad variants - EX, S, SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect
The Hyundai Exter was recently launched as the carmaker’s entry in the micro SUV segment. While it rivals the Tata Punch, it can also be seen as an alternative to the Maruti Ignis, Citroen C3, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and the Maruti Fronx. The introductory prices of the Exter range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Exter is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which develops 83PS and 114Nm of peak torque. There’s a choice of 5-speed manual and AMT transmissions. Those wanting higher fuel economy can opt for its CNG variants, which claim an efficiency of 27.1km/kg but are limited to manual transmission only.

Hyundai is looking to make a statement about its focus on vehicle safety with offering six airbags as standard for the Exter. Visually, it’ll be easy to identify the Exter as a base variant with those exposed small wheels and parts that are not body coloured on painted black While it misses out on rear power windows, ISOFIX child seat mounts, USB chargers, and a basic bluetooth system, there’s the convenience of driver seat height adjustment and a digital instrument cluster.
For active safety features like electronic stability control, hill start assist, and vehicle stability management, buyers will have to shell out a premium of Rs 25,000 to pick the Exter EX(O).
Hyundai Exter S Variant
Price - Rs 7.27 lakh to Rs 7.97 lakh

The Exter S is also the entry-level option for the Exter AMT or the Exter CNG.
It gains several visual elements over the EX variant such as the wheel covers, LED DRLs, and body-coloured ORVMs and door handles. The interior design also gets revamped with the addition of the 3D pattern for the dashboard.

In terms of features, there are several essential additions like the infotainment system, front C-type USB charger, electrically adjustable ORVMs and rear AC vents.
Safety gets enhanced by tyre pressure monitoring and manual day/night IRVM. However, ESC, hill hold assist, and VSM are still optional and offered on the S(O). It still does not get a rear parking camera.
Hyundai Exter SX Variant
Price - Rs 8 lakh to Rs 8.68 lakh

The mid-spec Exter SX variant starts offering some of the highlight features of the micro SUV, like the sunroof and paddle shifters for the AMT. Also, the dual-tone colours can be enjoyed from this variant onwards which also adds 15-inch alloy wheels.
The interior also takes a step up with semi-leatherette seats and tilt adjustment for the steering wheel. Useful feature additions include automatic AC, projector headlamps, and cruise control (only for petrol). This variant finally introduces a rear parking camera and ISOFIX child seat mounts. It is also the best version offered with the CNG powertrain.
Hyundai Exter SX (O) Variant
Price - Rs 8.64 lakh to Rs 9.32 lakh
The second-from-top SX (O) variant packs these features additionally:

The top-spec variant of the Hyundai Exter features the same 8-inch infotainment unit but in HD quality and with connected car technology including Alexa compatibility. It is also the only variant to offer another Exter highlight - dual camera dash cam.
