Mahindra has left no stone unturned in detailing the Thar ever since its debut this Independence Day. It’s literally plastered all over the Indian automotive scene at the moment. Despite that, a behind the scene image from the Mahindra Thar’s TV commercial shoot has managed to catch our attention. Why? Because it’s parked in the exact location where a lot of us are actually dreaming of taking the Thar. No points for guessing, Ladakh.
Mahindra has released tons of commercials for the Thar showcasing its off-roading prowess. But we now know there are more on the way as we gear up for the launch on 2nd October. The Mahindra Thar gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns 150PS/300Nm (320Nm for AT) and a 2.2-litre diesel with a 130PS/300Nm specification rating.
Both the engines are connected to a 6-speed manual transmission while a 6-speed automatic transmission can be had as an option. A shift-on-the-fly 4X4 transfer case comes as standard on the Thar just like before. It sees an improved suspension setup as well with an independent front suspension with a multi-link unit at the rear.
Your long journeys to the paths less beaten will also be a bit more plush thanks to additional convenience features on the inside. It gets a water-resistant interior, a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multi-function steering wheel, tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control and a multi-information driver display.
Mahindra is likely to price the Thar between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 13.5 lakh. It will rival the Force Gurkha and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
