Couple of months back, Ford India launched its much-anticipated compact crossover EcoSport in the Indian car market at an aggressive pricing of Rs. 5.50 lakh. The vehicle received an extra-ordinary response from buyers, and grabbed 30,000 bookings in mere 17 days. Now, the long waiting period of the vehicle has forced Ford dealers to stop taking bookings of some of the variants of the compact SUV.
"We are witnessing an extended waiting period on certain variants and have temporarily stopped taking bookings on a few variants," a Ford India spokesperson said without specifying details. The company hasn't made any comment on the amount of booking backlog, but the minimum waiting period for the EcoSport is around 4-5 months.
Meanwhile, the halt in bookings vary from dealerships to dealerships. Some of the Ford dealers have stopped bookings for the entry level variant of the diesel EcoSport, while some others for the top-end and mid variants of the SUV in diesel option. Few dealers have also stopped taking bookings for the top end 1.0L EcoBoost engine powered petrol EcoSport (Optional variant).
According to SIAM, the company has sold 8717 units of EcoSport till July, and 4,715 units in July itself. While the petrol variants of the Ford EcoSport is priced in the range of Rs. 5.99 lakh and Rs. 8.44 lakh, the diesel variants of the vehicle gets a price tag of Rs. 6.69 lakh to Rs. 8.99 lakh. The EcoBoost powered SUV prices range from Rs. 7.89 lakh to Rs. 8.28 lakh (All the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.)
