The Japanese automaker, Honda is all set to become the third largest passenger car company, with respect to sales in the Indian subcontinent. If the present sales of Honda continues, the currently positioned 3rd auto major M&M could be pushed to one rung down the ladder of largest passenger car manufacturers list of the country.

However, the news hasn't been confirmed by the company officials but the big players in the auto finance stream expressed that they expect Honda to sell 18-20,000 units in the present month. And given the fact that Mahindra too, clocks around 19,000 units every month, the Japanese would certainly be at par with the homegrown automaker.

Approximately, a year back Honda was not in the prettiest of its situations with their most cherished sedan, City loosing market grip. The soaring petrol prices and introduction of some iconic diesel models by other companies led to the decline of the Japanese firm. At that point of time, company played a master stroke by introducing a diesel engine in its newly launched Honda Amaze in April last year. Subsequently, there was no looking back and with diesel City introduction following on, the sales propelled even further.

If we look at the past couple of month's performance of Honda, it managed to sell 15,700 units and 14, 300 units in the months of January and February respectively. The last month of fiscal year, March is always considered to reap benefits for common man with companies offering discounts and offers to meet their respective sales targets.
