Honda retails 13,362 units in May 2014

Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese manufacturer Honda Motor Company, has sold 13,362 units in the month of May 2014, as compared to 11,342 units last year for the same corresponding period. When most of the manufacturers fail to provide decent sales, the automaker witnessed a growth of 18%. Honda's sales momentum is maintained by the customers overwhelming response to Honda City and Amaze.

Moreover, during the two months April and May 2014, the automaker sold a total of 24,402 units against 19,830 vehicles last year for the same time period. For the first two months (April-May) of new financial year, company registered a growth of 23%.

In the hatchback segment, the manufacturer managed to sold 1,333 units of Brio, while in the compact sedan, the automaker sold 4,752 units of Amaze. Furthermore, in the saloon C segment, the company outshines its nearest competitor Hyundai Verna sales as the automaker sold 7,218 units of Honda City. In the SUV segment, Honda retailed 59 CR-V and also exported 518 units in the month of May 2014.

Honda in order to expand its model line-up, will launch its MPV Mobilio in the month of July. The MPV made its Indian début at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014. Based on the Brio's platform, the MPV focuses more on the comfort of its passenger by providing sufficient interior space. Honda will pitch its MPV against the lucrative market of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and Nissan Evalia. The Honda Mobilio will be available in both the fuel trims as the MPV in-houses company's tried and tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine along with its latest development i-DTEC diesel engine. The petrol powered models churn a maximum power output of 117bhp while the oil burners muster power in figures of 98bhp. The diesel variants are supposed to deliver a fuel economy of 25kmpl similar to the Honda City diesel.
