Honda Cars India has been facing some tough times recently due to a lack of diesel powered cars. And to correct this flaw in their sales plans, Honda India is set to introduce 3-4 diesel variants in their current sedan and compact utility vehicle line-up within the next 2-3 years. According to a conference held yesterday, the first diesel powered car will be built off the Honda Brio platform and has been codenamed 2TP.
Honda India has revealed its plans for diesel powered vehicles will then extend to the Honda Jazz, City and the new MPV/SUV. The possible sizes for these vehicles are 1.2 and 1.5-litre diesel engines depending on the model. However according to Honda’s Thailand website, it is more likely to come with the 1.5-litre engine size and will be less than 4 meters in length to maximize excise duty benefits which should assure competitive pricing.
According to Honda Cars India president and MD Hironori Kanayama, “"We have very ambitious plans for diesel in the coming years. The new engine will drive all new models lined up for the future, including the new small sedan next fiscal. We hope to have at least 3-4 diesel models in the next two years, we are thinking of a sequence and which model we will fit the engine for the launch."
