Honda had promised five new products in the next three years, of which the Amaze was the first. At the moment, the Japanese manufacturer's line-up consists of Brio, Amaze, City, CR-V and the Accord. The Jazz and the Civic have been discontinued.
Currently only the Amaze is available with a Diesel engine that has a cubic capacity of 1.5 litres producing about 98bhp of power and 200Nm of peak torque. This i-DTEC engine has been derived from Honda's European spec 1.6-litre i-DTEC to get the duty cut. This engine will be used by Honda on other upcoming models. Honda states to not get this on the Brio. The other new models from Honda will be the new generation Jazz and City. Both of them are based on the similar platform and there won't be much of a changing in their pricing when compared to the last generation.
To make complete utilisation of the Jazz platform, Honda won't just make the City, but also an SUV on the Jazz platform. This will compete with the Duster and will be in the price band of Rs 11-16lakhs. This will be Honda's replacement for the Civic and help the company tap this segment, which is one of fastest growing today. To sequence more juice from the Brio platform, there will be a Brio based MUV that will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. This will be a seven-seater and will be powered by petrol and Diesel engines. This will be priced between Rs 7-11lakh.
This way, the company will churn out a total of six models from two platforms, further reducing the cost and the company will be ready to ramp up its production and dealership once the new plant is ready in 2014. For this year, the company has an annual production capacity of 1.2 lakhs. We can expect Honda to showcase the Brio-based MUV this year at some international auto show, while the Jazz and City will also follow next year. The company's policy of man maximum, machine minimum has worked well for the Brio and the Amaze too. We do believe the company could shake up the segment leaders with their products.
The future Honda line-up:
Brio -petrol only
Amaze - petrol and diesel
New Jazz - petrol and diesel (launch 2014)
New City - petrol and diesel (launch late 2014)
Brio MUV - petrol and diesel (launch 2014)
Jazz SUV - petrol and diesel
CR-V - petrol
Accord - petrol
