In an earlier news story published on CarDekho, we talked about Hyundai Motor India's plans of launching some new models in India in the next couple of years. Now Hyundai's MD and CEO Bo Shin Seo has confirmed the same. He says that there will be four new models in India in next year's time, including a compact SUV. The company is also working on a new compact sedan, which will rival Honda Amaze and Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Hyundai's new compact sedan will be launched later this year.
Speaking on the upcoming compact SUV, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO Bo Shin Seo said, "Compact SUV is a very lucrative segment India. I think we are a bit late but we are developing a compact SUV to be launched soon." He further said that the Compact SUV is part of Hyundai India's strategy to launch 4 new models in the next two year.
When asked whether the company is planning to launch a sub-4 metre sedan built on the same platform on which the upcoming compact car codenamed BA has been developed, he said "That's a different car." He refused to share further information on the compact sedan, so expect the vehicle to launch by 2014 end.
Hyundai India is also studying an MPV to rival against the popular Ertiga. Speaking on the possibility of an MPV, Seo said, "The MPV segment is also fast growing, we are definitely looking at it but our priority will be the compact SUV."
Speaking on the new compact Car's positioning, Seo had earlier said it will sit "between the i10 and i20. It will create a completely new segment and will have better pick -up and performance than the i10 segment ". Denying that Hyundai will get into sub-Eon segment, he said, "Our Brand POSITIONING is On all about modern premium, so we will not go below the Eon."
The company is also working on the next-generation i10, which will house the company's newly developed 1.1-litre diesel engine, while the petrol version will continue to derive its power from the existing 1.2-litre Kappa2 motor.
