Which of these two automatic hatchbacks should you buy? We find out
Hyundai has finally introduced an automatic transmission for the Elite i20 facelift, which, since its launch in February 2018, was available with a manual transmission only. With this, the premium hatchback from Hyundai will go head to head with the automatic versions of the Maruti Baleno and the Honda Jazz. We have already compared it with the segment-leader Baleno, now let’s see how it stands its ground against the Honda Jazz on paper.

Despite being powered by same capacity engines, the Jazz edges past the Elite i20 by 7PS. However, in terms of torque, the Elite i20 beats the Jazz by 5Nm

The Jazz manual has a better claimed fuel efficiency figure than the Elite i20 manual. Since claimed FEs for CVTs generally hover around their manual counterpart’s figures, we expect the Jazz CVT to be more efficient than Elite i20. Hyundai is yet to reveal the fuel economy figures for the Elite i20 CVT

Elite i20 Magna Executive vs Jazz S
Price difference: The Jazz S costs Rs 65,000 more than the Elite i20 Magna Executive.
Common Features: Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, all four power windows, basic music system, central locking and electrically adjustable ORVM.
Jazz S (over Elite i20 Magna Executive): steering-mounted audio controls, height-adjustable driver seat, tilt steering, day/night IRVM and foldable rear seats.
Elite i20 Magna Executive (over Jazz S): rear AC vents and cooled glove box.
Verdict: Though the Jazz gets some extra features over the Elite i20, a premium of Rs 65,000 seems to be on the higher side.
Elite i20 Magna Asta vs Jazz V
Price difference: The Jazz V costs Rs 30,000 more than the Elite i20 Asta.
Common Features: 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, reverse parking camera, height-adjustable driver seat, tilt steering, automatic climate control and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs.
Jazz Z (over Elite i20 Asta): Paddle shifters.
Elite i20 Asta (over Jazz V): rear parking sensors, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED DRLs, telescopic steering wheel, rear AC vents and cooled glove box.
Verdict: The Elite i20 offers better value for money here as it not only offers more features than the Honda Jazz but is more affordable as well.
