The Hyundai Exter, the latest car in Hyundai’s garage, has been launched at a starting price of Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) and is based on the Grand i10 Nios hatchback. It gets the same cabin design as the hatchback but comes in an SUV avatar. We’ve spent some time up close with the Exter and now, you can check it out through these detailed images:
Exterior
Front
The Hyundai Exter gets a bold front fascia with well-defined features and a boxy outline. It gets a textured grille that takes up most of the chunky bumper and stretches to the edges, merging with the housing for the square-shaped projector headlights. The prominent skid plate adds to the ruggedness of the design.
The micro-SUV gets distinctive H-shaped LED DRLs along the bonnet line for the split-headlight design.

Side
The side profile of the Exter gives you a better idea of how tall and upright it really is. It gets a clean shape with pronounced rear haunches for a wider stance, combined with the thick cladding for an extra rugged appeal. Seen here in its top trim, it gets premium touches like the blacked-out pillars and roof rails.
There’s also a small textured section on the C-pillar to match the grille.
The Hyundai SUV comes with 15-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels wrapped in 175-section rubber.
Rear
The rear profile carries the bold look which we saw in the front, matching the design language well. It gets a muscular rear profile with straight lines and a massive bumper that shows off the high-rising silver skid plate.
The tail lamps also get the H-shaped LED element and are connected by a thick black strip, with the same textured look as the grille that houses the Hyundai logo.
Interior
Dashboard
The Exter gets the same dashboard layout as the Grand i10 Nios and the only difference is the colour scheme. The Exter comes with an all-black cabin, but with grey for the roof lining and the insides of the pillars. There is also a splash of colour with cabin accents based on the exterior colour.
Here, you can spot the diamond pattern on the passenger side of the dashboard and the blue insert around the AC vent, matching the Cosmic Blue exterior shade (colour will differ based on the exterior shade). There’s also a small recess for stowing small items.

One of the key changes to the Exter’s dashboard from the Grand i10 Nios is the instrument cluster. The micro SUV gets a digitised setup as standard with the 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display. The top variant also comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, seen here with contrast stitching to match the exterior.
From this viewpoint, it seems like the dual-camera dash cam of the Exter is ergonomically positioned behind the IRVM, and slightly to the left, so as to not interfere with the driver’s view of the road ahead.
Hyundai has also elevated the game in this segment by offering the Exter AMT with paddle shifters.
Infotainment & Climate Control
The Exter offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as found in the Grand i10 Nios as well.
Even the climate control for the auto AC (with rear AC vents) is the same as the panel seen in the Hyundai hatchback. You get bright accents here as well for the dial surrounds, just like the circular AC vents.
Under the climate controls, you get a wireless charging pad as well as USB Type-C and Type-A ports along with a 12V power socket.

Seats
It gets semi-leather upholstery with fabric in the middle and leather elements on the sides. The colour of the fabric backrests also depends on the exterior shades. Here, the Cosmic Blue paint option also gets cross stitching and beading in the seats to match.
From these seats, you can also access the voice-controlled single-pane sunroof, a highlight for the Hyundai Exter and a first in the micro-SUV segment.
The Hyundai Exter is priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10.10 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom) and is a direct rival to the Tata Punch and Maruti Ignis. The micro-SUV can also be considered an alternative to Maruti Fronx, Citroen C3, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
