The sportier premium hatchback will get a host of cosmetic updates and some mechanical ones too

Hyundai has confirmed N Line models for India, starting with the first one this year.
-
The first will be the i20 N Line, expected to be based on the top-spec i20 Asta (O) variant with the same creature comforts.
-
It will be offered with the 120PS 1-litre petrol engine, while tweaks to the suspension are also expected.

The i20 N Line is expected to attract a premium of around Rs 50,000 over the top spec i20 for its sporty updates.
Hyundai is bringing its N performance brand to India this year starting with the i20 N Line which will be launched in September 2021.
The N Line products are usually limited to cosmetic changes and mechanical tweaks while the full-blown N performance models get more powerful engines than the standard car along with more significant mechanical changes. The i20 N Line features the same 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with the 48V mild-hybrid system as the standard i20 overseas. Meanwhile, the i20N hot hatch gets a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol that makes 204PS.
Exterior cosmetic changes for the i20 N Line include a new grille with a different pattern, tweaked bumpers, and sportier skirting for the front and side profile. It also gets a twin-tip exhaust and sportier rear diffuser design and Hyundai could also offer it with new 17-inch alloy wheels. The rest of the shape and styling will remain the same as the regular i20 with the addition of ‘N’ branding at the front and rear.

The turbo variants of the i20 already feature a blacked out interior with red accents so the biggest change for the N Line variant would be the N badges around the cabin along with the metal pedals. Since it is expected to be based on the top variant, it will be equipped with the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting in the footwells, semi-digital instrument cluster and connected car technology. It is unknown if the India-spec i20 N Line will also get the new steering wheel design with the N logo at the bottom.
Hyundai India could make some tweaks to the responsiveness of the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine for the sportier variant but its output will likely remain unchanged at 120PS. The N Line could be offered with the choice of a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) or a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Other mechanical changes expected include a different suspension setup for a more dynamic driving experience.
The N Line is expected to be based on the top-spec i20 Asta(O) variant at a premium of around Rs 50,000. The turbo-petrol variants of the i20 are currently priced from Rs 8.81 lakh to Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). While the Volkswagen Polo GT would be a direct rival to the i20 N Line, it will take on the the Tata Altroz’s turbo-petrol variant as well.
