Hyundai Motor India had retailed 40,716 cars last month in the domestic market and registered a growth of 9.1 percent. The Korean automaker retailed 37,305 cars in the corresponding month last year.
Commenting on the February sales, Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, sr. vice president sales and marketing, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “Hyundai domestic sales grew by 9.1% on the strength of strong performance of the three ‘Indian Car Of The Year’ brands Creta, Elite i20 and Grand in spite of logistic challenges for transportation of vehicles to North India and loss of many business days of dealership operations across Haryana.”
Speaking of their upcoming products, the next product in the pipeline is the Tucson SUV and is a re-entry. Hyundai showcased it at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo last month and is expected to be launched in coming months. The vehicle is most likely to have a 2.0-litre diesel engine along with an optional AWD setup. In a recent interview with CarDekho during the Expo, Hyundai India said that Tucson will come through a CKD route (local assembling), with over 50 percent localisation. The starting price is expected to be in the vicinity of Rs. 17-18 lac. Moreover, the company was also testing the next generation Elantra in the country, which was recently revealed globally. It was expected to be showcased during the Indian Expo, however, Hyundai didn’t reveal it. Expect the new Elantra to make its Indian debut sometime next year.
