Hyundai is all set to debut the latest generation of the i30 hatchback in the international market. The i30 is the elder sibling of the i20 hatchback and its current version was showcased by Hyundai at the 2016 Auto Expo. The latest generation model will make its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show before being launched in international markets.
From the spy pictures which have surfaced online, we know that the car follows the new design language of the company and gets a larger front grille, much like the other new Hyundai models. The interiors too are expected to be borrowed from the new Elantra, which are well laid out and clutter free.
Just as the i20 rivals the Polo hatchback in India, the i30 competes with the Volkswagen Golf in the international market. And, like the Golf GTI, the i30 will also get a more powerful variant, tuned by Hyundai's N division. Also, the car will be available in three body types - a normal hatch, an estate, and a four-door coupe. Hyundai might also add a hybrid variant to the i30 lineup by borrowing the tech from the Ioniq sedan.
As of now, Hyundai has no plans to debut this car in the Indian market. At the Auto Expo, the i30 was showcased as a part of Hyundai's international model range. However, Hyundai has two highly anticipated models lined up for the India launch - the new Elantra and the new Tucson. Both models are being rigorously tested on Indian roads and will be launched this year itself. The Hyundai Tucson will fill the void between the Creta and the Santa-Fe in Hyundai India's portfolio and will rival the XUV500 in the Indian market.
