India rising as a car consuming nation, US congress report

According to a us congressional report, the global auto industry is going through a restructuring process as India and China are rising as the car consuming countries and at the same time US is slowly loosing its biggest auto market status.

The US based major car maker General Motors' displacement from the number one car company in the world and the rise of countries like China and India as car-consuming nations illustrate the restructuring that is taking place in the global motor vehicle industry, as per the report prepared by the Congressional Research Service.

The report is about 72 page long and it has been titles as 'The US Motor Vehicle Industry: Confronting a New Dynamic in the Global Economy'. The report also takes note of the purchase of Jaguar and Land Rover by the Tata's last year with successful launching of world's smallest car Tata Nano which is also the cheapest car in the world.

The report further elaborates that the Indian subcontinent is entering a new, more robust investment stage for auto manufacturing. Indian auto maker Tata is a highly diversified Indian conglomerate with global dimensions. Tata owns two UK-based luxury car-makers, Jaguar and Land Rover, which it purchased from Ford Motor. Tata Motors launched the Nano in India in 2009, at USD 2,500, it is the world's cheapest car, it added.

The Report also mentioned the recently launched small car models in India by major car makers around the world including Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo and Chevrolet Beat. In coming months many new cars in India are going to be added in this segment including Toyota Etios and Nissan Micra.
