Honda BR-V will be the first proper three rows compact SUV in the country
Honda has detailed their upcoming Indian spec BR-V compact SUV at their HQ in Tokyo Japan. The vehicle will be officially revealed to the public at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and launch is expected a couple of months later. The compact SUV segment is one of the hottest selling ones in the country presently and Hyundai’s Creta has exaggerated things further. Creta is also the highest selling product in this space, Hyundai manages to sell 7K units monthly and it would be BR-V’s arch rival. While it will also compete with Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano along with Scorpio and Safari.

The Honda BRV prototype made its global debut in Indonesia in August and company has confirmed that it will be powered by the 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol motor in Indonesia. Speaking of India, Honda has confirmed that Indian version will also get the 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol option with the company’s newly designed CVT transmission that uses Honda’s Earth Dream technology. The 1.5-liter i-VTEC in BR-V will generate 118 bhp @ 6600 rpm and peak torque of 145 Nm @ 4600 rpm. No words on the diesel yet, but expect it to be the same 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel with 100 PS and 200 Nm of max twist. This said, Honda might introduce an uprated version of this engine in the BR-V or even the 1.6-liter i-DTEC from its European models.

The vehicle is said to be based on the Brio’s platform, the same platform which is shared by Amaze and Mobilio too. But unlike the rest three, BR-V features a fresh new face and looks more compelling than them. Also, it features new dashboard design compared to the Brio clan and is somewhat similar to that of the City and Jazz.
