Mahindra XUV 500 since the time of its launch is being applauded by the customers of India. The car is facing a huge demand which the Indian auto maker Mahindra is unable to cater to thus resulting in large waiting lists. The need of catering the increased demand of this Mahindra SUV in India is the main reason behind Mahindra & Mahindra’s slow progress in its international launches. But now, news has surfaced that Mahindra & Mahindra is getting all ready to roll out this power-packed SUV in the car markets of Italy, Australia and Chile soon.
In the words of M&M Chief Executive International Operations (Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors) Mr. Ruzbeh Irani, the company is planning on moving forward with the international launches of XUV 500 and the initial areas planned are Italy and Australia. He also stated that the Mahindra XUV 500 will be customized according to the needs of these markets and the necessary adaptations for this purpose such as emission and left hand drive esp. for Italy have already been implemented. On the subject of the timeframe of the launches Mr. Irani remained tight-lipped and just mentioned that the company is currently evaluating the launch timings in various markets out of which Australia and Chile are the priority.
He also indicated that M&M will also take the domestic demand into consideration and overall capacity to take a final decision on the timing of the launch. In February, the President of Automotive & Farm Equipment Sector of M&M, Mr. Pawan Goenka had said that for the company, meeting the demand of the domestic market holds more priority than anything and this is why the company was going slowly on the launch of XUV 500 in the international market. He had also mentioned that the company was ready to enter the market like Australia and many other markets in terms of regulations and homologations.
He had added that Mahindra would be increasing the output of this SUV from 3,000 units to 4,000 by May; he did not mention any time line but he indicated that the total output is targeted to go as high as 5,000 units per month. Mahindra & Mahindra at present is working on completing the deliveries of the 7,500 bookings that were done through a lottery that followed the inordinate demand of XUV 500. Regarding the need of international launch of this Mahindra SUV, Mr. Irani mentioned that the Mahindra XUV 500 is a global vehicle which has been designed by keeping global markets in mind and thus it is indispensable that this SUV is supplied to the markets all over the world. The Mahindra XUV500 is being exported to South Africa currently.
