After endless delays, the plan now appears to be concrete considering the recent announcement of $280 million into the Fiat Chrysler’s Ranjangaon facility for local assembly of ‘New Jeep Vehicle’!

Update: American automaker Jeep has made its presence felt at the Indian auto Expo 2016 revealing three SUVs dubbed as Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Jeep Grand Cherokee. All three of the variants would come to Indian market as CBU units whereas local assembly manufacturing of the SUVs will commence at the Ranjaaon Plant, Pune in 2017. Jeep Wrangler will go old school with a removable top and doors along with having a set of 17 inch alloy wheels. Check out more about Jeep cars at Auto Expo.

Reportedly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) Jeep brand will finally make its entry into the Indian market early next year with five exclusive dealerships initially. Mr Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India told this to PTI. Expect the company to officially reveal the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler SUVs at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo in Feb next year.

It is expected that the company will bring these products to India as a CBU (Completely Built Units) import. However, the report suggested that the manufacturer is mulling to assemble these vehicles locally,  Kevin Flynn added that we would like to see this happen (local assembly of Wrangler and Cherokee). Fiat recently introduced their Abarth brand in India, Jeep will be next-in-line, all this will help the Italian automaker to grow in the country. Moreover, after the recent Abarth 595 Competizione  launch, next in Abarth lineup is the hot 145 bhp Abarth Punto EVO and Avventura.

In July, FCA had announced that the company has invested $ 280 million into Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited, with Tata Motors Limited for extension of Fiat’s Ranjangaon manufacturing facility. Fiat Chrysler promises that the investment will support the production of a new Jeep vehicle and is most likely to begin production in the second quarter of 2017 in the country.
