The American SUV brand Jeep is again paving its way to the Indian car market with its model Grand Cherokee. Jeep was a part of Chrysler group and is now owned by Fiat; Jeep had also invented a famous series of off-roaders for the army known as CJ series. For quite some time now, Jeep has been rendering its range of products with diesel engines which would make the models suitable for European Market. On account of growing demand of diesel vehicles, the Jeep models are now suitable for the Indian car market as well. he President and CEO of the company, Mr. Michael Manley who is well acquainted with the Indian market appreciated the good taste of Indian people in vehicles which would be well complemented by the Grand Cherokee. The company is planning to offer the Commander, Compass and Patriot as well to the Indian car market; in future, some Fiat-based soft-roaders are also expected to make way here.

At present, Jeep is looking at launching a competitor for the B-segment by 2014 and once the company sets its foot firmly in the country Chrysler and Dodge would also follow. The Grand Cherokee lives up to its name and looks grand on the outside with a tough-looking squared-off feel, a large bumper, a toothed seven slat grille and inflated wheel arches. In addition to an attractive rear-end, the car has excellent handling and off-road manners. Grand Cherokee is powered by the common rail diesel motor that is designed and engineered by Fiat but has been brought to life by diesel specialists VM Motori. With a displacement of 2987cc just like Mercedes 3.0 V6, this engine pumps out immense power and torque and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The insides of the Grand Cherokee are spacious and airy with a rugged feel. In addition to the traditional switchgear and round-boss steering wheel, the driver is greeted with a seat that can be stretched out and adjusted as per comfort and choice. The prices of this rugged Grand Cherokee SUV, if assembled locally, can fall below Rs. 40 lakh which would ensure a strong start for the model as well as the brand.
