CarDekho has been constantly updating you about the Fiat’s plans of launching its iconic Jeep brand in India and today we have something more exciting for our avid readers. Back in October 2012, we reported that the company would bring in the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in the country, which was later officially confirmed by the company. Now it seems that the launch isn’t very far, as both of these vehicles were caught testing twice in Pune, first by an Autocar India Reader and recently by a member of Team-bhp.
Like we informed you earlier, the Wrangler will sport a 2.8-litre engine, which is capable of churning out the maximum power output of 200bhp and 460Nm of torque. The Grand Cherokee will derive its power from a 3.0-litre, turbocharged, V6 diesel engine that produces 237bhp and 550 Nm of peak torque.
The company hasn’t however commented anything on the pricing; Jeep Wrangler should be priced around Rs 25-28 lakh, while the Grand Cherokee will cost more than 55 lakh to its buyers as both the vehicle wills come as completely built units (CBU) initially. We expect these vehicles to be launched by the end of the year; however, nothing on the launch plans too has been revealed yet.
Fiat that has revealed its plans of launching several new vehicles and brands in India, has also confirmed that it is considering launching a compact SUV by 2015 in India, Fiat Punto Abarth is the other vehicle to be launched in India, possibly in 2013 only.
This is all what we have for now; stay tuned to CarDekho for all the latest updates on the same, Cheers!
