JLR seeks China auto partner

British auto maker, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is likely to expand its business network and foray its production in Chinese market by the end of this year. Jaguar Land Rover, popular for its luxury and sports cars, is looking at opportunities to find a local partner for starting production in China, the world’s fastest growing luxury car market.

In Indian territory, JLR has ties with Tata Motors and is expected to bring many new luxury cars in India. It was rumored that currently that not much development has been made by the joint venture of JLR and Tata Motors but the two companies were in talks to jointly use the lower end of the British carmaker's engine range.

Ralf Speth, JLR Chief Executive talked to journalists on the sidelines of ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show and said the company will take any decision by the end of this year but he was not able to say anything as to when will they start production in China. When asked about strict European norms of carbon dioxide emissions, Speth said that the company sees absolutely no problem in reaching the 95 grams per kilometer fixed by European Government for reducing carbon emissions by 2020. Currently JLR is offering its large sport utility vehicles such as the Range Rover series, Discovery 4, Freelander 2 and high performance and luxurious sports cars like the Jaguar XJ, Jaguar XF and Jaguar XK. The company plans to bring Land Rover Range Rover Evoque SUV likely to be priced at Rs 45 lakh.
