Kia’s upcoming sub-4m SUV, codenamed the QYI, has been spied testing once again. This Maruti Vitara Brezza rival is expected to share its mechanicals with the Hyundai Venue while featuring a sportier appearance.
The QYI is still well under wraps and the test mule has been spotted with roof rails, shark fin antenna and rectangular tail lamps which seem to include LED elements. While we haven’t had a peek at the front yet, expect it to feature Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille with LED headlamps.
Kia made its Indian debut with the Seltos compact SUV which has enjoyed significant success in the few months since its launch. The Seltos is a premium choice within its segment and the carmaker is likely to position the QYI sub-4m SUV in the same way. Its feature list would likely include connected car technology, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a sunroof.
It would be powered by the BS6 versions of the 1.2-litre and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines from the Hyundai Venue. The 1.2-litre unit is mated to a 5-speed manual while the turbocharged unit is available with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission options. Expect the same options to be offered on the Kia QYI. The Venue is currently mated to the 1.4-litre diesel which will be replaced by the 1.5-litre unit from the Seltos. The QXI should be powered by the same 1.5-litre diesel.
The sub-compact SUV from Kia would be competing against the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The QYI is expected to arrive in India in the second half of 2020.
