LARTE, Germany based tuner, has performed a dramatic surgery on the Mercedes GL called the Black Crystal. The Black Crystal was sent out on a photo tour across northern Germany prior to its presentation at the Essen Motor Show in December 2014. The design now features an aggressive looking body kit and enormous 22 inch alloy wheels finished in black matte paint. The front bumper has been given a majestic looking ‘crystalline’ ornamentation and rakish geometry.
The imposing rear apron with its exclusively developed Remus valve exhaust silencing system with nozzles made of stainless steel spiting a note of power and anger. The special daytime running lights were made in conjunction with the German OEM supplier Nolden. The 5.12 metre long SUV was driven across Schloss Hohenlimberg castle in Hagen, Arnsberg and the beautiful landscape around Sorpetalsperre for the photo tour. The locations provided an ideal platform for the Black Crystal to flaunt away its new skin for the photo shoot. The V6 diesel engine also got slight treatment and now produces 290bhp of maximum power and 690Nm of peak torque which is up by the standard engines 258bhp and 620Nm.
Other attractive touches are the flared wheel arches, a new rear diffuser with additional brake light as found on Formula-1 style racing cars. Aggressive geometry continues in decisions intakes, overlays on doors and sills, external decoration carbon elements - all this gives even more brutal exterior of the car. The new angular additions have further enhanced the elegant look of the GL to a snarling beast on steroids. Even the mad GL AMG looks a bit sober in front of the Black Crystal. The Black Crystal will be displayed at the Essen Motor Show 2014 at the LARTE booth along with three other redesigned SUVs.
