Made in India Ford EcoSport to be exported to 40 Countries

Ford India has yesterday that it hopes to export its upcoming Compact SUV EcoSport to about 40 countries, after the vehicle is launched in the country. The company's flagship hatchback Figo too is being exported to 38 countries from India currently, and the company wishes the same to happen in the case of EcoSport too.

Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of CII AGM, Ford India President and Managing Director Joginder Singh said, "We have ambitious plans for exporting EcoSport in the international market. The Figo is currently exported to 38 markets from India. We hope to repeat that or even better it with the EcoSport,"

The company believes that there are high chances to do well in exports due to low cost in manufacturing the EcoSport at its Chennai based plant, he added. Expected to be launched by June 2013, the EcoSport will have three engine options with both automatic and manual transmissions.

The company is planning to make India the 'global export hub for Ford', and despite the slowdown in the Indian auto market, the company is als not putting on hold its investment at Sanand plant, Gujarat. He further added. Ford India will invest USD 1 billion to start its second facility at Sanand, which will come in operation by 2014. The plant will be able to produce 2.4 lakh vehicle and 2.7 lakh engines yearly.

Once the Sanand plant becomes operational, Ford India will have a total capacity of manufacturing 4.4 lakh vehicles and about 6.1 lakh engine annually. This is all what we have for now, stay tuned to CarDekho for all the latest updates on the upcoming Ford EcoSport. Cheers!
