Mr. Prithviraj Chavan, the Chief Minister of the state of Maharashtra along with the Minister of the Union Heavy Industries has received a request from the Rajya Sabha member, Mr. Vijay Darda regarding the development of Nagpur as an automobile manufacturing hub. The Maharashtra state government was also requested to include the industrial areas adjoining to Nagpur in the process. Mr. Vijay Darda sent a letter to the CM, Mr. Chavan for this purpose last week in which he mentioned that the Nagpur holds a lot of promise for the future of Automobile sector in India. Nagpur has some unutilized industrial infrastructure in the special economic zones of Burtibori and Mihan.
Even if the government increases the tax and other incentives, it can utilize these areas by transforming them and Nagpur the biggest manufacturing hub for automobile India. According to Vijay Darda, the Vidarbha area has been hit hard by the governments’ policies of offering special incentives packages for the promotion of industrialization; this apathy has resulted in the prolonged backward state of Vidarbha. The government of the Maharashtra state has laid much more emphasis on Mumbai and nearby areas of Pune, Thane and Nashik and this has resulted in overcrowding in these areas, he added. Mr. Darda further mentioned that the only way to balance out this situation is to make the backward region of Vidarbha more developed by offering concessions like it’s done in the other states of Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu.
