The Mahindra Scorpio Classic has been one of the best-selling models of the Indian carmaker. Even after the launch of the more premium Scorpio N, the previous iteration has stayed on the Scorpio Classic as a popular choice. The rugged SUV, with its new name, came in two variants at launch: S and S11. Recently, a mid-spec S5 variant has surfaced online as a new middle option.
What’s New
This new mid-spec variant gets a few cosmetic changes over the base-spec S variant. It gets 17-inch alloy wheels from the top-spec S11 variant, body-coloured front and rear bumpers, body-coloured cladding with Scorpio badging on the doors, side steps and roof rails. There was no badge on this variant, but the new S5 moniker was listed on the model details sticker.
Features
There are no visible additions in terms of features. It has the same features that are present on the base-spec S variant, which gets halogen headlamps, LED tail lamps, manual AC, 2nd-row AC vents, manually adjustable ORVMs, dual-front airbags and seatbelt reminder lamps.
Powertrain
Just like the other two variants, the S5 is also powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that churns out 132PS and 300Nm. The Scorpio Classic is paired only with a 6-speed manual transmission, and no automatic gearbox is on offer.
Price & Rivals
The price of the S5 variant has not been revealed but with all the cosmetic changes, it can carry a premium of close to Rs 1 lakh over the base-spec variant. The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is priced between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 16.81 lakh (ex-showroom) and is considered a rugged alternative to the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.
