Mahindra has finally launched the e2o in the United Kingdom at a price of £12,995. The electric car is already running in the Indian market and the automaker plans to take the vehicle to more European countries in some time.
Mahindra has introduced an improved version of the Indian e2o in the UK. While the domestic version is capable of running 120 kms on a fully charged battery, the English version claims a range of 127 kms, thanks to the automaker installing a bigger battery in the foreign version. The top speed of the European trim is 101 kmph as compared to 81 kmph in the Indian counterpart. It gets better-quality interiors, including better upholstery, and enhanced comfort and safety features.
All these improved features have increased the cost of the car. While the Indian version costs Rs. 6.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the European version is priced at more than Rs. 12 lakh (if one converts £12,995 into rupees). Mahindra has also launched a costlier version called the TechX, which starts at £15,995. It has some important features like touchscreen infotainment system, reverse camera, alloy wheels, etc. The battery of the TechX variant takes just 1.5 hours to charge as compared to nine hours for the normal trim. The online bookings for the car have started and the deliveries are expected to start by May 2016.
Mahindra has said that it aims to take the electric car to European countries since governments there encourage the use of electric technology. “We will get the support and incentives as enjoyed by the other EV makers in the UK. We plan to distribute the e2O on our own,” Mr. Pravin Shah, president & chief executive (automotive) for Mahindra & Mahindra, had said at an earlier occasion. With the launch in the UK, it seems the carmaker is ready to execute its plans.
