Mahindra will be launching the automatic variants for its car XUV500 on 25th of this month. This Indian carmaker is expected to bring automatic variants for both its two-wheel as well as four-wheel drive in order to counter the competition faced by it from Hyundai Creta.
The company is expected to use the same six-speed automatic gearbox which is being used in Mahindra Scorpio. The launch of automatic variants come at a time when Creta has been particularly successful with the automatic transmission. The Indian auto giant itself has witnessed soaring sale of AMT version of TUV300 and it contributed 50% of the total sales at a time.
The difference might remain in the variant in which automatic transmission is offered as Mahindra is expected not to offer it in the top variant to control the pricing. Mechanically, XUV500 will remain the same and will be powered by the same 2.2-litre engine delivering 140bhp of power with 330Nm of torque. The automatic variants are expected to cost INR 50,000 more than their manual counterparts. Although the automatic variant of XUV500 will cost approximately INR 1 lac more (INR 15 lacs) than its South Korean competitor, the high price is justified on the account of XUV’s bigger size and the extra two seats it provides.
