Mahindra NuvoSport is all set to launch on April 04, 2016 and specifications of its diesel mill have now been leaked. The sub-compact SUV will retain the 1.5 litre engine from the outgoing Quanto.
The 1.5-litre diesel mill will be available in two modes namely - Power Mode and Economy Mode. While the former churns out 100 horses with 240Nm, the latter produces a modest power of 72bhp and 180Nm torque. These specifications will have the NuvoSport compete with the EcoSport diesel that produces 100bhp. It remains to be seen if this increased power in Mahindra’s offering will have a huge impact on the mileage. The EcoSport diesel gives an average fuel economy of 22.2 kmpl. It is also evident from the leaked sheet that the engine will follow BS-IV emission norms. Mahindra is likely to borrow the 1.2-litre petrol mill from the KUV100 that generates 82bhp of power and 115Nm of torque but the carmaker might change the tuning to enhance the power delivery.
The sub 4-metre compact SUV is the successor to the Quanto which failed to give Mahindra the required amount of sales. The company has modified the front of the car and has given it an aggressive look. The car has been based on the same platform of the Scorpio and will compete with the likes of the Maruti Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. The to-be-launched four-wheeler will offer 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
The car will fill the void between the KUV100 and the TUV300 in Mahindra’s portfolio. Expect the diesel to be priced somewhere around Rs. 6.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
