The next generation of the Mahindra Quanto will be launched on April 04, 2016. The NuvoSport will be based on the platform that currently underpins the Mahindra Scorpio and will retain the 1.5 litre diesel engine from the Quanto. Variant details of the Nuvosport have been released online. The sub-compact SUV will be offered in six variants, namely N4, N4+, N6, N6 AMT, N8 and N8 AMT.
We expect Mahindra to offer ABS and EBD as standard across variants. The N4+ variant will feature optional airbags. The top-spec N8 variant will get features such as alloy wheels, integrated audio system, steering mounted controls, foglamps and tilt-adjustable steering.
However, all variants are expected to incorporate the same 1.5-litre diesel powerplant that get two driving modes viz. Power and Economy. In Power mode, the engine will churn out 100 BHP of power, which is on par with the updated Ford EcoSport. When set to Economy mode, the NuvoSport will deliver better fuel economy, while reducing the overall power output to 72 BHP.
These power plants will be offered with the choice of a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and an optional AMT gearbox. With the NuvoSport, Mahindra becomes the only manufacturer to have two sub-compact SUVs in its lineup. It will be interesting to see how the new Mahindra fares against it’s own sibling - the TUV300, the new kid on the block - the Vitara Brezza and the one that started it all - the Ford EcoSport. Also as the automatic unit offered in NuvoSport is an automated manual transmission, hence the drop in fuel efficiency between the manual and the automatic variant is expected to be marginal.
